Intersect Healthcare Systems has been selected for the 2026 American Heart Association EmPOWERED to Serve Business Accelerator — chosen from 309 applicants nationwide.
We are joining a national cohort of founders building solutions that improve health outcomes and address the drivers of health across the country. For us, that work has always meant one thing: extending the reach of academic and specialty medicine — cardiovascular care, precision oncology, genomics, and connected care — into the rural and underserved communities that have too often had to go without.
Why this accelerator, and why it fits
This year's program is built around a discipline the American Heart Association calls Adoption Intelligence — and it is the reason the fit feels right. Adoption Intelligence goes beyond pitching. It is the study of how healthcare organizations actually evaluate, implement, and sustain innovation in real-world settings. It is the difference between a technology that should work and one that genuinely gets adopted and used at the point of care.
After more than twenty years in healthcare, I have come to believe that this is exactly the right thing to be focused on. The hardest problem in health technology is rarely the technology. It is adoption — the human judgment, the trust, the workflows, and the incentives that decide whether a good idea ever reaches a patient. A program built around that question is a program built around the problem that matters most.
What comes next
Over the next several months, through to the October 22 Finale in Chicago, our team will work alongside healthcare leaders, implementation experts, and fellow founders to sharpen our approach and strengthen our path to scale. For a company whose entire mission is to carry advanced care into the communities that need it most, the chance to learn precisely how that care gets adopted — in the real settings where it has to work — is exactly the right next step.
We are grateful to the American Heart Association, MATTER, the Wells Fargo Foundation, and the Narrative Performance Lab™ for the opportunity — and to the many people who have cheered us on along the way.
